Win for Wasps

The Bay of Plenty Wasps emerged from the game with the Waikato based Harlequins on Wednesday (23 June 2010) with a solid victory.

Played under lights at Hinuera, the first half went point for point, with the Waikato selected team taking a narrow 19-17 lead into the half time break.

The second half was a battle of attrition. with the score locked up at 22 all as the clock ticked down. In the 78th minute of the match Zion Nordstrom broke the deadlock when he touched down out wide.

Two minutes later came the try of the match, when Zar Lawrence showed all his strength and experience to crash over for the Wasps fifth touchdown. With Dan Waenga conversion sailing between the posts the Bay representatives walked from the paddock with a 36-22 victory.

The other Wasps points came from two tries to New Zealand Sevens representative Toby Arnold who picked up a double and Lance MacDonald. with Waenga adding four conversions and a penalty goal.

Team management singled out the leadership of Solomon King who led his fellow loose forwards of Sam Cane and Steven Schenk from the front.
