C'MON THE BAY.....

There is only one. The pretender somewhere near Gisborne doesn't really count.

I have always supported THE BAY since our family moved to Tauranga from the land of the Dirty Scumbag Waikato.

Through thick and thin ...There has been so much thin. I was there on that day in 1996 which didn't happen and I was there when Miah MELSOM poleaxed Kevin EVERLEIGH in the lineout in Hamilton. St Greg kicked the first goal and MELSOM knocked the first bloke out and that was it really.

I remember going to many of THE BAY games. Dad used to coach the Tauranga under19 team and we travelled alot. I was always sick on the midweek game days so couldn't go to school. We went to all THE BAY games that we could and in 1976 went to most of them except the Counties game which was a good one to miss really. Eddie STOKES Jimmy KAMIZONA, Chris JACOBS and Greg ROWLANDS were the heroes of the day along with so many of the others.

I still wonder what Alan McNAUGHTON did to warrant never being selected for the ALL BLACKS again . What ever it was it wasn't that bad in my opinion.

I remember the Maniapoto's in the Lions game getting the sprigs pushed off their boots but they still rolled the forward pack down the length of the field.

THE BAY have always been a great team to follow although not the easiest team.... but only a dedicated fan continues to follow them in the dark years and openly endures the ribbing of the guys at work.

I see we meet some decent challenges at our undefeated new home stadium and I can hear the whining all the way back to their own provinces.

I am looking forward to the 15th of August. I have managed to get the night shift off and know it will be the crowning achievement which will cause the NZRFU to rescind their laws concerning overseas players not being eligible for the ALL BLACKS and select Glen JACKSON for No. 10 and captain in 2005.

C'MON THE BAY!!!

PS. Thanks to the Rangiuru club for the article in the Bay time recently which  informed me of this great website. It will be passed on to more diehard fans.
