Random Steps Vol.1

picture_126aA few bits'n'pieces for the middle of the week including:

* A media round-up
* A few random thoughts
* The BoP Development Squad is named
* Three pictures from the BoP vs Waikato game

And in a newsflash for those of you based overseas, we understand that you can now get live commentary of games from the Radio Sport website

Firstly a media round-up from the last week:

  1. "Capital Stars to Battle Bay" - Jamie Troughton notes that the Bay is up against it with injuries and Wellington welcoming back its All Blacks...
  2. "Headaches for Bay as first match looms" - more of the same from the Herald.
  3. "'76 side played from the heart" - Jamie Troughton profiles first NPC winning coach Eric Anderson as the latest incarnation of the NPC gets underway.
  4. "Bay lament trio that got away" - A match report of BoP vs Waikato and a few thoughts from DSW Messam...

Well, the TAB odds aren't pretty this week with Wellington head-head at $1.05 and the Bay at $7.50. I imagine there'll still be a few die-hard BoP fans weighing up the chances at the TAB, but money on the Bay doesn't look a great this week. A lack of off-season signings looks likely to hamper us this year. With Lutui and Bourke on the injury list as well as three of the promising Academy players it will be tough going in the early rounds.

An interesting blast from the past arrived back in BoP club rugby last week in the form of Brendon Daniels. Given our lack of depth and pace on the wings, if he still has the form of old it won't be long before he's straight back into the team. The full BoP Development squad is below, a surprise is the inclusion of Rob Moon there instead of in the main squad. Given the relative lack of experience the Bay has he may have been a useful inclusion in the senior squad.
