Mafia Plans - Game by Game

Round 1: Sunday 15th August vs. Auckland at Eden Park. 2:35pm kickoff.

Imagine this - on Sunday August 15th, at approximately 4.20pm, Bay of Plenty wins the Ranfurly Shield for the first time and you're watching it on Sky. You're dancing around the room, hugging the cat and thinking to yourself "I wish I was there" ...... so take action now and avoid this scenario, plan your trip to Auckland and join the rest of the BoP Mafia. Here is the plan for the day:

12.30pm or earlier - Meet at the Bombay services stop near the start of the motorway (the one with the petrol station and McDonalds, first one after you get onto the 4 lane highway coming from the Bay!). Meet fellow Mafia members and HoriBOP himself, get your face painted (by the way, can anyone help us with this)?
1.15pm - Head in convoy to Eden Park.
2pm - Gather on the terraces at Eden Park. It is the only unallocated area of the ground and we want to be a big, noisy group to support the lads.
Tickets are $10 at the gate - where cash is recommended for speed of entry, or EFTPOS is available - or through www.redticket.co.nz
4.20pm - CELEBRATE ....... (or, if the worst comes to the worst, look forward to beating Waikato in Round 2)...
8pm - Gather in your local pub to carry on celebrating, the Mafia home base in Tauranga is the World's End Sports Cafe in Fraser Cove. If the Bay wins the Ranfurly Shield, this will be their first stop in Tauranga.

Please wear all your Mafia or Bay gear so we can spot you, there will be some available for sale at Bombay if you haven't got around to buying yet. Update: WE WON!!!!

Round 2: Sunday 22nd August vs. Waikato at Tauranga. 2:35pm kickoff

Ranfurly Shield defense!! The Mafia will gather in the unallocated seating area, and will also be in the parade on Saturday through Tauranga. The game is nearly a sellout, bus some tickets are still available, and bus, ticket and beer deals can be found through Worlds End Sports Cafe at Fraser Cove. More details to be confirmed.

Round 3: Saturday 28th August vs. Taranaki at New Plymouth. 2:35pm kickoff

Any Taranaki based BoP fans who can give us the best places to congregate at the ground? Tell us at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Round 4: Sunday 5th September vs. Canterbury at Tauranga. 2:35pm kickoff.

Ranfurly Shield defense!! The Mafia will gather in the general unallocated seating area, in the top left-hand corner (relative to the entry gates at the ground). Look out for the Mafia signs from 1pm onward, and also look out for a few of us at Worlds End.

Round 5: Saturday 11th September vs. Otago at Tauranga. 2:35pm kickoff.

Meet in the "Mafia Pen" on the far side of the track!

Round 6: Saturday 18th September vs. Wellington at Tauranga. 2:35pm kickoff.

Meet in the "Mafia Pen" on the far side of the track!

Round 7: Saturday 25th September vs. Northland at Whangarei. 2:35pm kickoff.

Any Northland based BoP fans who can give us the best places to congregate at the ground? Also, if you want to car pool to the game contact:  This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Round 8: Saturday 2nd October vs. Southland at Rotorua. 5:35pm kickoff.

The campaign to "Fill in the Hangi Pit" with fans! Likely Mafia meeting point is on the terraces... or wherever HoriBOP decides is a good spot! No excuses - get to the ground and get off the couch!

Round 9: Sunday 10th October vs. North Harbour at Albany. 2:35pm kickoff.

We are trialing the idea of running a bus up to the game - if you are interested contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ... almost got off the ground, but not quite! Next season we will!!

SEMI FINAL!!! Saturday 16th October vs. Canterbury at Jade Stadium. 7:30pm Kickoff.

Two charter flights were laid on by Shane Kennedy House of Travel and were easily filled (and we could have filled a third)! Many other fans made their own way there and there was a huge Bay presence at the game - shame about the result!
