The BoP Mafia website was launched at the start of the 2003 season and at the end of every season, BoP Mafia members vote for their player of the season.

In 2003, the inaugural player of the season award was given to Lord Glen Jackson as he guided the Steamers around the park at the peak of his powers. Grant McQuoid was the runner-up as he carved up in the midfield and the combative future All Black (for 2 minutes) Kevin Senio finished 3rd.

In the glory year of 2004, the awards were very hotly contested with many players staking a claim. The winner was the massive Wayne Ormond, the talismanic leader of the Bay, who never took a backwards step. Runner-up was the maestro Glen Jackson in his final season and 3rd place went to Rua Tipoki who carved up in the midfield.

2005 wasn't such a great year and the award was won by Nili Latu, the turbo-charged loosie who had a whole season of non-stop action. Wayne Ormond was runner-up as he sadly departed for Japan and the popular Aleki Lutui picked up 3rd place.

2007 was an awful season. Mike Delany took the major award, scoring some great tries as we struggled. Young Lance MacDonald was in second place, his sparkling feet scoring tries from full-back. Simms Davison was in 3rd.
