Cane and Axtens named in NZ U-20s

Current Chiefs player Sam Cane and former Reporoa College team-mate Carl Axtens have been named in the New Zealand Under 20 team to play the IRB Junior World Championships in Italy from 10 June. New Zealand has to play Italy, Wales and Argentina in the group stage and the Final in on 26 June.

Rangataua consolidated their Bartercard Baywide Premier Rugby top four position, when they comprehensively defeated Rotoiti on Saturday (30 April 2011).

While it is never easy for teams to return home from the cauldron of Emery Park, with the win points on their ledger card - Rangataua ran in four tries (to one) on their way to a emphatic 34-7 victory. The Rangataua touchdowns were awarded to Siaosi Longi who grabbed a double, with Ray Brown and Luke O'Brien also touching down. The value of a competent kicker was shown with Rory McConnochie converting all four tries and adding two conversions.

In spite of tasting defeat on for the first time this season, Whakarewarewa retained their place at the top of the Bartercard Baywide Premier point’s ladder.

Opening the Easter holiday split round, Whakarewarewa faced Te Puke Sports under lights at Murray Salt Stadium, on Thursday (21 April 2011) evening. The game was up for grabs in the second half, after Te Puke held a narrow 10-7 advantage at the half way stage in the match.

All Black first-five Mike Delany has signed for a Japanese club and won't be available for Bay of Plenty's ITM Cup season, as Jamie Troughton writes.

Mike Delany lingered at Baypark Stadium last Friday night, long after the Crusaders had beaten his Chiefs team in front of nearly 17,000 fans.
