Dear Radiosport.
I am a BOP supporter, no doubt a quick reflection of our performances in the NPC in later seasons should no doubt engender me with your sympathies already. I am disgruntled, one could say rather upset with the Chiefs Super 12 squad that has been announced today, it is - quite frankly appalling, the incredible Waikato bias towards their reserve and injured players (note I am saying reserve and injured players here) over those in other provinces (notably BOP) is quite frankly disturbing.

"Can I have the envelope please….. without further ado, this years winner of the prized… pine pestle, …the sandalwood stirrer, the 2003 NPC wooden spoon winner is…… Northland!"
This year’s NPC was the most even competition we have witnessed for a number of years. Every team had their moments and their chance at glory..bar one. With the All Blacks away, some of the big names struggled for consistency, while some of the smaller teams reveled in the spotlight. Many argued that the skill level had dropped, but certainly there was still a lot of excitement in the world’s premier rugby provincial competition. |

Starting from the evidence of the 2002 NPC and 2003 Super 12, which proved conclusively that when Dirty Scumbag Waikato rugby is strong the Chiefs are a hapless pack of inept rabble, we argue the case for more Bay of Plenty Steamers players in the Chiefs.

What can I say about the Mafia day out in Hamilton? From the moment we arrived in the ground, we were treated to a feast of Bay rugby, forwards driving hard, sweeping back line moves and a Waikato side bewildered and ultimately defeated heavily. Oh how we shouted our approval and made such cutting and disparaging remarks to the Waikato fans.

So close and yet so far, we finished 5th in the NPC table ahead of Southland due to an extra bonus point and behind Auckland as they had amassed 3 more than us. Auckland can thank that ridiculous no defence game against Wellington for 2 of those points, if I had my way (and with my Mafia connections I might!) I would stop all bonus points for losing teams. So Auckland managed to finish within 7 of the mighty Bay, does that justify their semi-final placing? I can even feel sorry for Canterbury who were 7th despite a better win/loss record than the 3 teams above them.
