Bay v Wellington
Newsflash
Written by Kiwi Pie
Friday, 14 August 2009

Get to Rotorua on Saturday for the game of the round, a top of the table clash between the mighty Bay of Plenty Steamers and the Wellington Lions. Welington don't think they will need their All Blacks to beat us - let's prove them wrong. The expected side has been named for the Bay with only one change to the starting XV, Phil Burliegh replacing the injured Ben Smith and Aporo and Hunt moving out a spot, Hunt moving to the right wing.

15 August 2009 @ Rotorua International Stadium – 7.35pm kick-off
Zar Lawrence, Nigel Hunt, Cory Aporo, Phil Burliegh, Jason Hona, Mike Delany, Junior Poluleuligaga, Colin Bourke (captain) Luke Braid, Tanerau Latimer, Culum Retallick, John Moore, James McGougan, John Pareanga, Josh Hohneck.
Reserves: Dean Elmiger, Ted Tauroa, Mark Burman, Solomon King, Nick McCashin, Wayne Hughson, Toby Arnold.

Not available for selection: Ben Smith, Joe Savage, Clinton Toopi, Marcel Cummings-Toone, Josh Hall, Lance MacDonald.

What a pleasant trip to Pukekohe that was. Even though it took a while for the domination to turn into points, for once the Fan was confident that we would win and win comfortably.

Lethal loosies star in Bay win
Bay of Plenty Times

At times against Counties-Manukau yesterday, Colin Bourke felt like grabbing a beer from the sideline fridge, getting comfy on the halfway line and kicking back to enjoy the show.

Ahead of the Bay of Plenty No8, his two loose-forward fetchers Luke Braid and Tanerau Latimer were nearly winning the game by themselves, pilfering so much ball it became nearly embarrassing.

Bay comfortable v Counties
Newsflash
Written by Kiwi Pie

The Bay always looked better than Counties in the forward battle but a lack of ruthlessness and too many mistakes kept Counties in the game until late on. Luckily they were missing kicks while Delany was spot on again and kept nailing penalties to keep us 2 scores ahead. Late tries to Hona and Hunt sealed the game and made the victory look slightly more comfortable than it was. Positives - forwards are into everything, dominating at the breakdown, lineout good again, scrambling defence good when Masaga threatened. Negatives - lots of mistakes and too much frenzied play in our own half.

BOP Steamers 32 (Jason Hona 2, Nigel Hunt tries; Mike Delany 5 pens con) Counties Manukau 9 (Josh Hall 3 pens)
