The Bay of Plenty Rugby Union will announce a $190,000 profit this weekend, completing a million-dollar turnaround in the space of a year.
It's a dream result for the union which posted a record loss at last year's annual meeting, and justifies heavy cuts in spending and staffing levels during a dramatic 2008.
BOPRU chief executive Jeremy Curragh has warned the public not to get carried away, however, forecasting further tough times on the horizon.
"It's a good result and a solid result and we're comfortable with it but we're definitely not out of the woods," Curragh said. "The big difference is in 2008, there were a lot of issues we were able to manage and control ourselves, and we spent the last six months of the year sorting those out.
"The issues we face in the next year are a completely different set and it's going to be a real challenge. Sponsorship is tough but we're working hard and it's pleasing the progress we're making."

A firm criteria for allocating home games will see Bay of Plenty Steamers split their Air New Zealand Cup matches between Tauranga and Rotorua this season.
The Steamers will play a guaranteed seven games at home during the round-robin stages of the new extended tournament which now runs from July to November.
The split sees three games allocated to the Rotorua International Stadium and four at Bay park in Tauranga. It's expected the New Zealand Rugby Union will officially release the draw some this week.
Bay of Plenty Rugby Union chief executive Jeremy Curragh confirmed the Bay board had approved the draw proposal, based on the same criteria devel oped to determine the 2008 Cup quarterfinal against Southland at Baypark.

Hoorah, it is raining and summer is over. Well it must be, otherwise rugby wouldn't be starting tomorrow night.
Time to take a look at the Chiefs and assess their chances for the coming season. Love em or hate em, they do have Bay players and we need to make sure those Bay boys are given a fair crack of the whip (not literally, although I wouldn't put anything past SuperCoach Foster). Let's take a look at the 22 for Saturday's easy opening game at the reigning champions.
Mils Muliaina (captain), Lelia Masaga, Richard Kahui, Dwayne Sweeney, Sitiveni Sivivatu, Stephen Donald, Brendon Leonard, Sione Lauaki, Tanerau Latimer, Liam Messam, Kevin O'Neill, Craig Clarke, Ben May, Hika Elliot, Sona Taumalolo.
Reserves - Aled de Malmanche, James McGougan, Toby Lynn, Colin Bourke, Toby Morland, Mike Delany, Callum Bruce.

Bay of Plenty Rugby has set a tight deadline on appointing a replacement for departing coach Kevin Schuler, who announced today he was going fulltime with Japanese club Yamaha.
The union has called for a two-week application process and hopes to appoint a replacement before the end of February.
BOPRU chairman Bruce Cameron and chief executive Jeremy Curragh are determined not to lose momentum after the Steamers improved showing last year _ something Schuler believes augurs well for the upcoming season.
"It's a short time-frame but the coaches that are out there will be organised with their CVs and people that are keen will get in pretty quick," Schuler said.
