PERHAPS during another season Bay of Plenty would have tipped over Wellington last night.
Unfortunately for the Steamers this is 2007 and it hasn't been a season when much has gone their way - although much of it is their own doing.

When the fixture list was released, the Fan had identified the North Harbour game as a good away day. In my ever imaginative mind, we would be fighting for a place in the top 8 having won our previous 4 games. In reality, there was no good reason for anyone to attend Saturday’s game – which meant easy parking and a prime seat on halfway.

Bay draft racks up the rookies

HERE'S one for the Bay of Plenty history books.
When 19-year-old Luke Braid replaced Aiden Kuka on Saturday night, he became the 11th player to make his first-division debut for the Steamers this season.
The Tauranga Sports loosie came on in the 49th minute and became the 38th player used this year. Most Air New Zealand Cup squads number 28.
Braid joined Culum Retallick, Mat Wallis, Mike Ormsby, Jason Hona, James McGougan, Kelly Haimona, Toby Arnold, Wade Pereira, Hayden Baird and Chris Elvin in the growing record of 2007.

Fire within needs matches to salvage Bay season

At the end of Sunday's game, free posters were handed out showing the Bay players looking staunch beneath the slogan ``The Fire Within''.
Having just seen those same players troop off the park mud-drenched and defeated, it was clear the fire has been well and truly doused.
