Another trip to Christchurch, twice as many chartered planes and another heavy defeat for the mighty Steamers. Whereas last year, we were outplayed by an All Black laden outfit but actually played pretty well – this year we never really threatened and conceded too many penalties to ever get enough territory to compete. Luckily the Canterbury team made many errors as well which kept us in the game until late in the second half.

From After an incredible season last year which included the winning and defending of the Ranfurly shield, a demolition of all S12 franchise bases (bar one), and making the semi finals of the NPC first division, Bay of Plenty is about to begin the 2005 season. The big question most supporters are asking is can the mighty steamers deliver again?

I was going to write a match report on the Lions game – but you all saw it and if you watched it on TV you saw far more of it than I did on the embankment. So I will write about the whole “Lions in the Bay” week.

At the risk of sounding like a kid at Christmas, the Lions game is only five sleeps away now and much talk is focusing on the noise that the Barmy Army and their comrades will be making at our rugby grounds on this tour. No stoic, slightly reserved quips about the form of the second-five from the Lions fans while the ball is in play, instead they'll be here in full song with a song list rumoured to be as long as HoriBOP's bakery shopping wish-list.
