Feedback received on the Chiefs squad
Wednesday, 12 November 2003

Lets get Ian Fosters **** and barbeque them.  I'm hungry for revenge.
AH.

I totally agree with the Mafia's comments on Radio Sport today. This is an absolute disgrace! How many times does BOP Rugby need to be kicked in the guts by the Waikato Chiefs. I for one will not be supporting the Waikato Chiefs again under the NZRU recognises the inconsistencies in selections of BOP players in the Chiefs. If there is corruption in Rugby this is it! - Derek Maisey instead of Grant McQuoid has got to be the biggest rugby joke of this century.
SM.

Waikato and especially the 'Ferret Foster' with his ramblings "oh it was such a hard decision but the process was brilliant" deserve no support what so ever especially as they decided to hog all the dosh themselves and not have a match at the awesome steamers stadium.  We could have even guaranteed them no coverage by Kelly Exelby as we could have arranged a doughnut trip
for him to cover sheep trials in Te Kuiti or some other salubrious spot.

It is obvious that Waikato just want to hog all their players for themselves and with the team they have selected they are destined to do what they have done every other season - be a pack of losers.  How they can leave out the man that cut up every defence in the country, Mr McQuoid, with likes of Reagan King and other wowsers like this is incomprehensible.

Let them stew in their dung and don't let the Mafia demean themselves by associating with such a group of lowlifes (Mr Jackson and co exempt from this of course!!)

The first game I ever saw the Bay play was in 1971 in their epic encounter against the Lions.( I think I was 11 ) To me the Bay are like the France of the NPC, so brilliant and unpredictable but if they led in the Ranfurly shield by 20 points and five minutes to go I would put money on their opponents !!! Living in Tauranga I have seen less games over the years then I hoped to but it is good to see the revival of passion this year and disgusting to see how Waikato treats us as a very, very junior partner .I can remember a decade of wins over them during the eighties. To be honest I am as mad as hell. Strangely over the last  decade or so I kept running into a guy that I just realized has metamorphosed into Hori Bop. Must be fate. Anyway keep up your good works .It is well over due that this Union gets the hard core support it needs.

A note we posted on the Chiefs official website

Why should we support the Chiefs?
I'll give you some reasons why not:

1) We finished 5th and were the only unbeaten NPC team at home. We get zero chiefs games and 4 players in the squad.
2) You (i.e. Waikato) finished 4th and get all six chiefs games and 22 contracted players in the squad. Merit?
3) Dave Duley started for the Bay for 2 years and got no contract then warmed the bench for one year for the Chiefs (oops I mean Waikato) and got a super 12 contract.
4) Nick Collins had to go to Japan cos you didn't select him ("not enough NPC games"). How many did Mark Ranby play? or Roger Randle?
5) Was Grant McQuoid's form not good enough?
6) The agreement made between Waikato and BOP not to poach players - which - of course - resulted in Liam Messam & Stefan Stephano's huge involvement in the BOP NPC campaign
7) Aleki Lutui. Enough said
8) Ian Foster's 1997 selction over Andy Miller which resulted in him now starring for Japan rather than the Chiefs. Now Ian is repaying the favour to his Waikato-run franchise.
9) Our captain is playing for Coca-Cola next year. That's right - Coca-Cola.
10) Who the f**k is Sione Lauaki? I can tell you who Nili Latu is.
11) Tietjins' obvious delight at Kevin Senio's non-selection. - At least he's available for the sevens. Could Gordon have said the same about Isaac Boss?
12) Derek Maisey.
13) The Chiefs best finish is sixth (when they played their games outside Hamilton), even BOP finished 5th....

So give us a dozen reasons why we should.

In fact give anyone who lives outside the Waikato province any reason why they should. You wonder why you continually fail, and never get any support? The Waikato province alone does not have the ability to support a professional franchise. You may call yourselves the "Chiefs franchise" but you are no more than an extension on an already average NPC side. And you always will be when it is run by, with and for Waikato.

So don't expect any support from those of us outside of the "mighty mooloo" country.
C & A

I cant believe this cr**, what is the point of even being part of the franchise, now I can see why Duley moved. Linklater, is the biggest joke of the lot, and Randle and Ranby not playing and still making it after the Nick Collins saga is worse. Faatau (even though a good buy) getting in yet he plays for a foreign country, yep heard that before! Sione Lauaki who only played off Auckland's bench? Maisey...??? yep he was great, I'm actually surprised not to see Matt Priscott.

Sean Hohneck, that is ridiculous he may have played 40 minutes all year, in fact

This is an outrage and hard to make a spectacle out of it? (given the world cup is on), although I suspect Foster took that into account.
