Chiefs Squad 2011
Written by Kiwi Pie
Wednesday, 10 November 2010

For the final time Ian Foster has rolled the dice and come up with this Chiefs Squad for 2011.

Ben Afeaki, Colin Bourke, Craig Clarke, Mike Delany, Aled de Malmanche, Stephen Donald, Hikawera Elliott, Romana Graham, Richard Kahui, Tawera Kerr-Barlow, Tanerau Latimer, Fritz Lee, Brendon Leonard, Lelia Masaga, Ben May, Liam Messam, Taniela Moa, Malili Muliaina, Tim Nanai-Williams, Dan Perrin, Culum Retallick, Isaac Ross, Sitiveni Sivivatu, Toby Smith, Dwayne Sweeney, Sona Taumalolo, Save Tokula, Hayden Triggs, Tana Umaga, Scott Waldrom, Nathan White, Jackson Willison.

Seven Bay players selected, the only surprise is Dan Perrin who spent most of the season behind the excellent John Pareanga.

As usual, if the first choice Chiefs can take the paddock, they look a very good outfit so we will have to wait to see whether the usual injury curse strikes. Midfield could again be a weak area with Umaga being managed through the season and Willison and Tokula inexperienced at this level. The outside backs look potent and the Chiefs will be spoilt for choice when everyone is fit.

Up front, the front row should be fine with a fair amount of depth. There are 5 locks which suggests a couple of them will cover blindside and a surprise call up for the giant Romana Graham who started to look good at the end of the ITM Cup. No place for the veteran Luke Andrews who starred for the Bay but is not really a long-term development option.

In the back-row, Colin Bourke and Tanerau Latimer may combine with Liam Messam as first choice starters with Fritz Lee providing impact and Scott Waldrom gives Lats a rest now and again.
