The question that many Bay of Plenty rugby supporters are asking is, who can stop Tauranga Sports making history, and annexing their fourth successive Bartercard Baywide Premier championship.
With just one defeat and ten points clear on the points table, Tauranga Sports are in menacing form with their sights firmly set on the top echelon silverware.
This Saturday (19 June 2010) they travel to the Eastern Bay of Plenty to meet Opotiki Sports at the Opotiki Domain. The formbook would suggest that the visitors should return home with a victory - however Opotiki at home are always a tough nut to crack, and are sure to bring plenty of resolve to the encounter.
Rotoiti who sit in joint second place, have suffered defeat in their last two outings, and will want to get back on the winning trail on the weekend. Standing in their way is Rangataua at home, who are another side to defend their line to the last, at Te Ariki Park.
Lurking ominously in a share of second is Mount Maunganui who would appear to be too good for Whakatane Marist at Blake Park. In the other Premier match-ups, Te Puke Sports will be favoured to lower the colours of Te Teko in the Eastern Bay - with Te Puna facing a big ask when they play Whakarewarewa at Puarenga Park in Rotorua.
Division Two will feature the game of the round when the two front-runners square off at Jamieson Oval. Revenge will be firmly on the mind of Rangiuru coach Bob Moorhead, after his side were humbled by the Rotorua side 33-10 in the first round.
Reporoa who have moved up the point’s table in recent weeks should have a good tussle with Marist St Michaels in Rotorua, Paroa host Ngongotaha, while Greerton Marist will look to cement third place when they face Kahukura.
Te Puke Sports and Greerton Marist will be warming up for next weekends top of the table clash, which will decide the Baywide Colts first round title. This Saturday Te Puke Sports should account for Marist St Michaels, with Greerton Marist likely to have receive a good workout from Opotiki
