With the TAB offering $3.50 for a Bay victory, the mighty Steamers came out and played almost the perfect half of rugby in wet conditions. Almost perfect because Bourke's pass to Latimer floated forward when a third try would have made the game secure at half-time. Aporo scored the first try, storming through the Wellington defence with a couple of massive "don't argues", the second also to Aporo after Kirkpatrick and Smith had combined in a Wellington comedy of errors. Delany was in commanding form with the boot again. Wellington came back in the second half but needed a very dodgy try to make the scoreline close and in the end, the Bay were comfortable in the closing minutes.
BOP Steamers 21 (Cory Aporo 2 tries; Mike Delany 3 pens con) Wellington 17 (S Fuglistaller try; D Kirkpatrick 2 pen, F Fili 2 pens) HT 21-6.
