On another wet and windy night, the Bay delivered and took the win against Wellington. It was a disjointed game with patches of brilliance and overly dominated by the whistle but the win was everything. Both side traded penalties until the Bay went back to the 2009 playbook with Delany putting Burleigh through gap with Smith on his shoulder to take the pass, mesmerise the defence and slide over.
19-12 at half-time to the Bay and straight away, Aporo took on the Wellington defence and like last year, he sliced them up to make it 26-12. Just when it should have been comfortable, Buxton P carved up in broken play to set up Coles for a try and Mathewson scooted over from a scrum move. 26-24 and all on. Then the Bay turned over the ball at a ruck and Masaga found himself with clear space up ahead. He turned on the after-burners and made it look too easy. 31-24 and all that was left was a tense few moments as the Bay continued to look for a bonus point and Wellington tried to score a try from their own goal-line. But the good guys took the points.
