The Bay Steamers took their second victory of the season and also bagged a 4 try bonus point to move up to 8th on the ladder. In a high-scoring game, the Bay held the lead from a few minutes in and never lost it again but it took until Masaga's hat-trick try before the win was secured. Flimsy defence from both sides led to 10 tries but the Bay had slightly more structure to their game whereas Harbour ran out of ideas once the Bay's defence improved in the second half.
The best try of the game was finished off by Lance MacDonald after a searing break from his own 22 by the hard-running Brett Mather. Masaga's welcome trio of tries featured 2 easy dot downs on the end of the line and an exchange of kicks with Phil Burleigh for the 3rd. Mike Delany was back and controlling operations nicely although his goal-kicking took a half to settle down. The pack did a great job in the setpieces with scrum and lineout solid. Bay 39 Harbour 29.
