38-31 to the Bay, 5 more points and we stay just a point behind the leaders Wellington. A strong breeze was blowing at Baypark and rather unfairly for Harbour, it settled down in the second half when it was blowing in their favour. After the game started in sunshine, the clouds rolled in and there was a wicked hailstorm just before half-time. The Bay totally dominated the first half but kept on breaking the line without finishing off. After MacDonald had a TMO call go against him, King scooted over in the corner and the Bay were 7-0 up (not a conversion was missed all game).
From nowhere, Harbour replied with a try when Waquasaduadua (sp) was sent clear, and Smylie supported for the try - a soft try from the Bay's point of view with an alarming lack of cover defence. With the wind advantage looking to be completely wasted, the awesome loose trio came to the fore again with King finishing off his second try. So 14-7 at half-time and we expected to be under siege from Harbour in the second half.
However the Bay completely dominated after the interval. From a quick tap, Aporo was set free and kicked through for Zar Lawrence to dot down. Then the forwards rumbled, Colin Bourke coming up with the try. 28-7 and it looked all over. The Bay were pressing for another try when a Nutbrown pass went astray in midfield (while we were hot on attack) and the players stood and watched on as Harbour ran away under the posts. Harbour now had a clear plan to kick themselves downfield and hope the pressure paid off - they didn't have to wait long as from a 5 meter scrum, Nutbrown's kick was charged down - 28-21.
The Bay rallied to win a penalty and take it to 31-21. But soon after, Waquasaduadua (sp) dazzled with his footwork from a standing start and about 4 defenders never laid a hand on him. So just a 3 point lead and when the Bay had a scrum in their own half, sending it throiugh the backs seemed a risjy option. But Zar Lawrence caught a low pass which put him clear and then he carved up before finding Braid on his shoulder in support who freed Bourke to finish the try. A great try to close out the game and the 4th try for the loose forwards. Gopperth converted a penalty after the hooter to give Harbour a second bonus point.
